Restored: My Journey to Renewal and Purpose
“Over 50% of the broader US veteran population remains un-diagnosed or untreated for underlying psychological conditions.” -Erin Anderson, Ballard Brief
My wife, Jess, serves on the VH+WA board. After meeting Ken and Janie and hearing their stories and passion for helping veterans, I felt compelled to join their mission. Little did I know, I would soon become their first beneficiary of non-traditional care.
A quick search for "veteran non-profits" reveals hundreds of organizations with noble intentions that often fall short of delivering meaningful, lasting change. In my experience, many lack the nuanced understanding required to address the unique challenges veterans face. VH+WA stands apart. They prioritize the individual, tailoring support to specific needs while removing the financial barriers to care. Their commitment is genuine: they don't just want to help—they are dedicated to helping, the right way.
Reflecting on my life before treatment, I realize I was simply surviving from one day to the next. Today, I possess both the capacity and the drive to live life to its fullest. My depression has lifted, and I have regained agency over my emotions—milestones I once believed were beyond my reach.
This journey has been transformative, reminding me that healing is not only possible, but profound. VH+WA has given me more than just support; they have given me my future back. I am incredibly grateful to be standing on this side of the struggle, filled with hope and eager to see how many other veterans will find their own path to renewal through this incredible VH+WA community.
